Artist's Comments

Tea for Three [link] is written by Molly :iconmollinda: (previously also the artist).

I will be posting these here to hopefully get some intense critique so I can improve in future strips. This is very different from my usual soft and fuzzy style, and it's been a bit of a challenge. I can see so many dodgy things, but I'll let you point them out so I know what's important.

I will be posting these 3 strips at a time so people don't have to wade through multiple deviations to see everything. If this format makes it hard to read, let me know and I'll post them separately.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wow, I had no idea that you drew a webcomic - I must say I'm bloody impressed and will duly be bringing myself up to speed with the archives!

Your ability to communicate dynamic body poses through very simple shapes is extremely well-developed, and I envy it immensely. It is, after all, the essence of cartooning! I also love the slightly washed-out colouring technique, it gives everything an attractive watercolour sort of appeal.

If I had any criticism (and please feel free to disregard it) I would note that there's a tendency to lose in-mouth details like the teeth and tongue, such as in panels 2 and 4 of episode 75. I don't know if it's a stylistic thing, but you might want to consider drawing them in, as they can be just as expressive as the other facial features.

Anyway, I love the overall look and humour of this comic, and I'll definitely be checking it out (as soon as I get back from France-land.)

Toodles!

Read my pathetic comic. It's so not funny. I mean, my god. [link]

98% of all teenagers are impressionable doofs who will do what a signature tells them to. If you are one of the 2% who isn't, copy and paste this into your signature.
I've only just taken over the drawing of Tea for Three recently (actually, not that recently, but we've only started putting up strips recently because I draw so slowly).

Thanks for the comment. I agree on the in-mouth details, I tried giving Nadia a tongue/bottom row of teeth in #75, but my boyfriend commented that it looked like a funky lip, so I just left it as a gaping hole. I'll definitely do some work on that in the next strip!
Gush:

I love the style and shading technique! Your poses and inking are incredible; you really convey movement well, and Nadia's character and face shape really set her apart and identify her obviously as the "Come with me if you want to live" girl. :D

Critique-stuff:

You may have to intensify the colors slightly around the lips to get the teeth to stand out against them. Also (and I realize this borders on critiquing style, which I don't want to do since yours rocks) it seems like there could stand to be a little more exageration in the expressions. They all seem to be wearing the same look just about in all the panels. I know, they're all more or less freaked out that they've got tanks after them, but try to bring through the characters' well... character more in their individual expressions. The two couch-potato girls seem like the same girl with different hair. One exception being the brunette's face in the second panel of the Millipedes one... She definitely has agood "EWWWW, BUGGS!!!" expression going. If I knew the characters' general personalities better, I'd give more specific suggestions on where/how to mix up their expressions.

Sharing the world has never been humanity's defining attribute.
PS - Just looked at the two most recent ones on the site, and I can see you're differentiating the girls a lot more clearly already. So, uhm... don't worry too much about the rest of that critique (sheepish) and just work on the teeth, I suppose =P

Yay, critiquey goodness :).
Expressions and character personalities are something that I have been trying to work on alot, so I'm really glad you think that aspect is improving (and that I was right to worry about it!). I still think it needs alot more work, but I'm working mostly by trial and error and the moment (so if you ever get more ideas on that vein, I'll be listening). The teeth tip is good, I will keep that in mind.
Thanks so much!
:giddy: Shall I submit this without comments to get people to come over here?
